Diana Gabaldon

Diana Gabaldon holds a PhD in ecology and was a university professor before publishing Outlander in 1991. She wrote the first book, she claims, purely for practice — with no intention of publishing it. The series has since sold over 50 million copies worldwide and inspired a long-running television adaptation.
