Arkady (1925–1991) and Boris (1933–2012) Strugatsky were Soviet-era Russian brothers who became the most celebrated science fiction writers in Russian literary history. Writing in a climate of censorship, they used genre fiction to deliver sly humanist critiques of Soviet society. Their work was adapted into Andrei Tarkovsky's film Stalker.
